| The Jeannette Glass Company began in 1898 and made both glassware and pottery in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. The company went through many transitions. Jeannette bought and operated the Harker China Company of Chester, West Virginia in June, 1969. In early 1970, They purchased the Royal China Company. After a major fire, operations were continued in the French Saxon building which Royal had purchased in 1964. By 1976, the entire Jeannette company was sold to the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. The Jeanette holdings then filed for bankruptcy in December, 1982. The company finally closed under ownership of Nordic Capitol/Bank One Corporation on March 15, 1986.
